trophon^® EPR is a high level disinfection system that is fast and simple. Disinfection takes place in an automated, closed system and uses a vaporized hydrogen peroxide solution.

The compact design means it can be located at the point of care, helping to improve patient workflow, while the fully enclosed system helps protect both patients and staff by limiting exposure to harmful disinfectant chemicals. As a point of care solution, it can help reduce the need to transport probes between the ultrasound suite and separate cleaning rooms.

Appropriate reprocessing of ultrasound probes between patients is critical to reduce the risk of HPV transmission. Recent research shows disinfectants commonly used on ultrasound probes do not kill natural, infectious high-risk HPV⁽²⁾.

Given the prevalence of HPV, the potential for HPV transmission in the healthcare setting and the virus's links to cancer, these research developments are of concern.

Fast, automated 7-minute cycle
Automated, easy-to-use High-Level Disinfection with one-touch operation requires fewer manual steps (compared to other methods of probe reprocessing), so you can do other things while the transducer is in the system.

Traceability
The optional traceability solution links the probe and HLD cycle data and time with the patient and procedure. This can help you meet compliance requirements with audits and accreditation. The trophon® EPR Printer provides labels for records, helping to eliminate missing information.

Limits exposure to harmful chemicals
With the self-contained and automated High-Level Disinfection process, the disinfectant cartridge remains sealed until inside the system, so there's no need for special ventilation, and may reduce requirements for Personal Protective Equipment.

Probe-friendly process
Over 1,000 probes are OEM-approved for use with trophon® EPR, and the process requires no soaking-it exposes probes to a very low amount of hydrogen peroxide mist and disinfects both the probe and the handle.

Consistency in process
Each High-Level Disinfection cycle is validated by sophisticated sensor technology and the Chemical Indicator, for clinical validation that helps ensure compliance with leading healthcare recommendations.

Environmentally friendly
The fully enclosed system limits exposure to harmful chemicals and breaks down the hydrogen peroxide disinfectant into harmless, environmentally friendly by-products: oxygen and water that can be disposed of in a sink.

What is High Level Disinfection?

High level disinfection (HLD) is defined as the complete elimination of all microorganisms in or on an instrument, except for small numbers of bacterial spores.
Instruments classified as semi-critical devices require high level disinfection.

Why High Level Disinfection?

Controlling infections has never been more important. More and more, healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) are a major challenge for healthcare organizations. Consider these facts:

1 in 25 patients will acquire an infection during a hospital stay¹.
HAIs cost the U.S. up to $147 billion annually in direct and indirect costs².
Up to 70% of HAIs are preventable using existing infection prevention practices³.
Of the 1.7 million people infected in U.S. hospitals, 98,987 die⁴ As a result, there are more efforts around controlling and preventing HAIs than ever before-and the disinfection of ultrasound transducers can play a critical part in that.
12.9% of transducers are contaminated with pathogenic bacteria following routine disinfection⁵.
Up to 7.5% of transvaginal ultrasound transducers were found to have HPV DNA, a known cause of cervical cancer, after low-level disinfection with wipes⁶.
Up to 9% of barrier sheaths and condoms leak⁷.
One of the Top 5 non-compliance findings by The Joint Commission is reducing the risk of infections associated with medical devices or equipment⁸.

Sonex-HL™
The small sealed cartridges that contain a proprietary aqueous solution of 35% Hydrogen Peroxide are 80 mL each which is enough for up to 40 exams (up to 240 exams per box). Product cannot ship air. (6 cartridges / box; approximately 240 cycles)

Clean Ultrasound Probe Covers
Decrease risk of recontamination after high-level disinfection. Custom-designed for ultrasound probes, these covers protect the entire probe, including the handle. (100/box)

trophon Printer and trophon Connect
The printer records each HLD cycle and generates an adhesive label detailing the results of each disinfection cycle for documentation and traceability. This allows the probe and the HLD cycle date and time to be linked with the patient and the procedure.

trophon Printer Paper / Labels
Labels are used with trophon Printer to help address the audit trail often required by hospitals and clinics to track and adhere to infection control guidelines. Labels can be placed in a manual log to reduce the potential for incomplete or inaccurate documentation. The labels are direct thermal, adhesive, and high quality with a seven year print stability. (1 roll - 900 prints)

The trophon Connect software application provides a traceability solution for trophon EPR High Level Disinfection (HLD) system. It enables download of a detailed HLD report at the click of a button. It is designed to help the user meet audit and accreditation requirements.
